About me
I founded The Hay Runner in 2014 having worked at Gwernyfed Sports centre before it closed. Sport had always been in my life, though I had a sabbatical from it during my 20’s and early 30’s. I’d played tennis since I was 4. Yes, you read that right! Unfortunately in my late 30’s I developed an RSI which also brought my career as a potter to an end.
This was the point my life changed completely and opened up a whole world of opportunities. I became a ‘Runner’.
Because of a bet, I ended up with my friend Annie, applying for and running The London Marathon in 2002. We had no idea how to train ourselves, made all the mistakes under the sun but we got from 1 mile to 26 within the year. I know how it feels to start from scratch and the importance of having support from family and friends, but most importantly how not to do it!
It was a massive turning point for me. Since then, I’ve raced all over the UK and abroad, including The Marathon des Sables with Annie. It spurred me on to train with UK Athletics as a Leader in Runner Fitness, to work specifically with other women at Walk to Run. I really believe you can do anything if you want to.
Since then I’ve qualified as a Personal Trainer and
Level 3 Spinning ® Instructor. More recently I’ve started specialising in Movement.
I’m now a Biomechanics Coach, looking at Intrinsic Biomechanics – how we can attain optimal function as individuals and more specifically for the sport or activity we do.
My education continues as does my running and cycling.
Always have goals – keep asking questions and never stop learning.
